How long have you been in business?
Port Resources opened its first group home in July 1980. We have grown a lot since then and now operate over twenty group homes and supported apartments across Southern Maine. We also do outreach services in individuals' homes, have an outpatient mental health clinic and also provide professional training for individuals, other providers and municipalities.
What is your primary product or service?
Port Resources is a non-profit social services organization which provides services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism and who may also have co-occurring mental health disorders, medical conditions or other syndromes. We provide services in homes and apartments we operate, in individuals' homes and apartments and through our outpatient mental health clinic (outpatient individual/family and group therapy, psychology and psychiatry). We also provide professional training programs for individuals, providers and municipalities.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have been with Port Resources for over twenty-five years, starting my career right out of college as a Direct Support Professional. I did an practicum at Eastern Maine Medical Center while attending the University of Maine- Orono- and had the opportunity to work with a number of children who had special needs. That experience inspired me to pursue a concentration in developmental disabilities. I have worked in a number of leadership roles and assumed the Executive Director role in 1999. I completed my MBA through Saint Joseph's College.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Port Resources has a lot of strength and has successfully evolved over the years to remain relevant, while also successfully adapting to the significant and ongoing changes in the larger system of care. We are very mission driven/client centered and practice a holistic, integrated treatment approach in all services.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Port Resources services are expanded across Southern Maine (York and Cumberland Counties).

What type of payments do you accept?
Our primary funding source is the Medicaid Section 21 Waiver program, we also work with Sections 17, 29 and 65 of the Waivers. For our outpatient services we accept Medicaid, Medicare and several private insurances. We accept private pay for any of our services.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Port Resources is a private non-profit organization that maintains a volunteer Board of Directors who has fiduciary responsibility for the company and that oversees the Executive Director. The Executive Director and the Senior Directors are responsible for the day to day operations of the organization.
What are your hours of operation?
Port Resources' office is open Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. Services are provided around the clock.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Port's best compliment would be that our services are of the highest quality and are very effective in assisting people to achieve their highest level of independence while living meaningful and fulfilling lives. We also work hard to break down barriers that exist in our communities for individuals living with any form of disability... being recognized as a leader in doing this would be most appreciated as well.
