Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1991
What is your primary product or service?
Decorative Accessories would cover the whole operation. Flowers, Candy, Fudge, Ice Cream, Candles, Toys, Antiques, ..............
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Owner - When I became unemployed at middle age and was over qualified whenever I applied. I had been doing the retail side as a hobby and it just grew.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are very much a speciality shop putting strong emphasis on American Crafted products and accessories related to wood, wire and wax. Many people refer to us as a Craft Store, but we are a finished product store specializing in artsy products and decorating with a nature's theme.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have three buildings (refer to our website)www.sunrisecorner.com or to our blog:sunrise corner and we are on facebook and twitter. The three buildings are distinctly different in style, product presentation and price. The 1810 House is more museum-like with antiques and individual room themes. The Market (or fire barn)is known as the Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Penny Candy Store with a retro menu and theme (this is the largest Penny Candy Store between Portland and North Conway). The School House is just that, full of small gifts, florals, candles, soaps and FUDGE. We expand when we participate in the major flower shows in Boston , Hartford, Cincinnati and Portland.
